Desideri House, a center for the promotion of intercultural and interreligious learning and dialogue, is home to the Boston College Nepal Program. Since 2004 Boston College, through its Office of International Programs, has had a fruitful partnership with the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies at
Rangjung Yeshe Institute.

Desideri House has close ties to the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, one of the leading centers in South Asia for the study of Buddhism and related languages.

Desideri House promotes networking among Jesuits engaged in interreligious work – serving as host for the August 2013 conference of Jesuits in Buddhist studies and dialogue.
Ippolito Desideri, SJ, Pioneer in Interreligious Discovery
Father Ippolito Desideri, SJ, in whose honor our center is named, was born in Pistoia, a Tuscan town northwest of Florence, in December of 1684.

29 October 2016 • Desideri House was honored by a visit from Prof Dagfinn Føllesdal, emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Stanford University and the University of Oslo. Professor Føllesdal's grandson, Harald, is a student at the KU Centre for Buddhist Studies.
1-2 October 2016 • Greg Sharkey, our director, took part in the 4th Tzi Chi Forum in Taipei, marking the 50th anniversary of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation.
About the Director
Gregory Sharkey SJ, the director, is a Catholic priest and member of the Jesuits. In addition to directing the Boston College Nepal Program, he teaches at the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies, and lectures regularly on the religions of Nepal.
