Cardoner Project in Nepal

December 21, 2016

For the fifth year running The Cardoner Project, a Jesuit program based in Sydney, Australia, came to Kathmandu for a successful service-learning and immersion program. Programs, rather. On December 6th, two groups, comprising 31 members, arrived for a 15 day stay. All participants spent time helping the Missionaries of Charity, Mother Theresa's sisters, caring for the elderly and homeless at Pashupatinath. After that, the group led by Mr Tim Russell and Fr Winai Boonlue, a Thai Jesuit from Chiang Mai, trekked to the Jesuit mission in Tipling where they interacted with the children in the local school and helped with some reconstruction work. At the same time, another group, led by Kate Hilyard, Nick Fuentes, and Jesuit Scholastic Brett O'Neill, traveled to Mahendrajhyadi VDC, in Sindhuli District, for a school camp. Their they received a warm welcome from Mr Prem Gurmachhan, headmaster, and the staff of Shree Kalika School Simrash. They followed their village immersion with a trek to the Ghorepani and Poon Hill area. We look forward to the arrival of a third Cardoner group on February 8, to be led by Cardoner's founder -- and good friend of Desideri House -- Fr David Brathwaite SJ.
