Riverview Returns

January 12, 2017

St Ignatius' College, Riverview in Sydney, Australia, has a long history of sending students to Nepal each winter (summer down under) for intercultural immersion programs. For the past few years, Fr Jack McLain SJ has led a second contingent of Riverview students to Kathmandu for a three week long program of volunteer service and cultural exploration. After a brief orientation to Nepal, for the first few days, the group volunteers each morning at the Missionaries of Charity's Home for the Aged in Pashupatinath . The afternoons are dedicated to learning about Nepal's rich cultural and religious history, and they spend an evening as guests of local Nepali families.

The students & leaders then travel to the village of Ratamata, in Kapilakot VDC, Sindhuli, where they are hosted by the family of Man Bahadur Gurmachhan while conducting an educational camp at the local high school. The is followed by a trek to the Annapurna Region, led by Sardar Chandra Rai. Fr Jack, an excellent photographer, documents the group's experience with his camera. His work can be seen online at this address: https://deepdownthings.smugmug.com/Namaste-Portraits-from-Nepal/i-GrtpVRL
